It is kinda ridiculous that we’ve been living here for a few months now and we haven’t written about THE MAKEGROUND yet!
It’s one of the bigger reasons we moved here, so it’s time we tell you a little bit more about it.
THE MAKEGROUND is a playground for makers. There’s tons of (recycled) materials and tools available and you can go there if you want to make something. It is mostly outdoors, so the projects tend to be on the bigger side: treehouses, forts and of course things like swings, slides and monkey bars. But there’s also other things being made. Like installations for public spaces or for festivals and parties.
The founder of THE MAKEGROUND is Lalu. We’ll tell you more about him in a future post. At the moment he’s very busy with preparations for upcoming workshops.
Last summer we did a maker residency here. We really connected with Lalu and his way of seeing things.
We stayed in touch after the residency, so when Lalu wrote that THE MAKEGROUND became more popular and busy, we thought it was another good reason to move out here and become volunteers.
THE MAKEGROUND has a very dedicated group of volunteers. There’s always someone willing to help you if you get stuck on a project.
Or when you just need a couple of extra hands. Us makers like to help (each other) out, right? It’s been real nice to be a part of this community. Very inspiring too!
Btw Lalu has also been too busy to make a website, so we’re gonna help him out with that too. But, like Lalu, we prefer making physical things over digital plus being outside over inside, therefore it might take some time…
(and yes, that’s why we’re way behind on this blog as well)
